'Three Parent Babies - Mitochondrial Replacement Techniques under German Law' The first known 'three-parent baby' was born in 2016. Since then, more children have been created in Europe using the so-called mitochondrial replacement techniques. The study concludes that the Embryo Protection Act prevents the application of these techniques in Germany. It then examines whether the ban is tenable from a constitutional point of view, with particular reference to the German ban on egg cell donation and germ line intervention.
